Ira Moskowitz (American, 1912-2001) pen and ink drawing on paper of two studies of rabbi reading Torah, reciting Sh'ma (Shema). Shema or Sh'ma refers to covering the eyes with the right hand whilst receiting the first verse of the prayer. Signed to the right hand corner. Matte and framed in a gilt wood frame 
Weight: Approx. 3lbs. Ira Moskowitz was born in Galicia, Poland in 1912, and moved with his family to New York in 1927. He enrolled at the Art Student's League and studied there from 1928-31. Moskowitz devoted much of his life to the production of Judaic art, later works of Moskowitz depict religious (Judaic) subjects primarily. The lived in New York City for the majority of his adult life after moving to various cities and died in 2001.
