Travies, Charles Joseph (Swiss, 1804-1859) original pen and ink drawing (not printing), Caricature, bearded man with books. signed C.J. Travies (bottom right). Acquired from the estate of George Longstreet, a collector renowned for beautiful original illustrations and prints which the collection has appeared in dozens of museums and exhibitions in the last four decades. The last picture is a sampling of the elements of the estate, not included in this list. Charles Joseph Travies de Villers known as Travies, was a French painter and caricaturist. He founded and was a prolific contributor to the popular Gazette Charivari (1831) and designed for Caricatura (1838). His spiritual burlesques of Parisian life were very popular. He helped to illustrate the works of Balzac (1848 - 55). 
Condition: Design in excellent condition appropriate for age, yellowing, slight smudges of paper. Structure in excellent condition, slight signs of use of the display, wear and tear.
