With thoughtful flowing strokes Mane-Katz (1894-1962) composes an expressionistic oil on panel portrait of an orthodox Jewish man and his son. Signed middle right M.K for Mané-Katz, circa 1945.Mounted in original giltwood frame and matted with beige felt. Mane-Katz was a Litvak painter born in Ukraine best known for his depictions of the Jewish shtetl in Eastern Europe. "Father and Son" is more representative of his later works that utilized a more colorful palette.

Condition: Very good original condition, the painting with small pinhole that is original to the wood panel, near the fathers foot. The frame with gilt loss, age related fractures, chips and gilt touch ups.
